About iUrban Teen

iUrban Teen is a nationally recognized program that brings career-focused STEM+Arts education to historically and systemically excluded teens ages 12 to 18. Youth receive hands-on exposure to various careers and civic engagement opportunities that step them beyond their current boundaries. Our program goals are to increase awareness and knowledge of STEM+Arts careers, build confidence and critical thinking, provide mentorship and internship opportunities, and create a collaborative learning model for youth.

General Job Description

We seek dedicated and enthusiastic Success Coaches/Mentors to join our after-school program for the upcoming school year, September 2024 – June 2025. This role involves tutoring students to help them improve their Math and English skills. Coaches/Mentors will also mentor students to grow their leadership, communication, and advocacy skills and strengthen their self-confidence, resilience, and understanding and appreciation of their cultural heritage.

Major Responsibilities & Duties May Include:

  • Provide one-on-one & group mentoring/tutoring
  • Assist students with homework and academic projects
  • Monitor and track student progress; securely maintain confidential data; submit regular program reports
  • Collaborate with program coordinators and other mentors to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment and implement engaging & effective mentoring sessions
  • Encourage and motivate students to reach their full potential
  • Maintain frequent communication with iUrban Teen staff members; attend regular program meetings both in person and virtually
  • Attend and complete all professional development and training required by the school district and iUrban Teen

 Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Strong proficiency in Math, Algebra & Geometry, and academic English reading and writing
  • Familiar and comfortable with high school Trigonometry and Statistics
  • Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with youth and adults
  • Passionate about working with youth and making a positive impact
  • Familiar with the “Strength-Based” approach to learning and “Trauma-Informed Instruction” practices

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Able to actively engage with youth, generate enthusiasm & help students reach their potential
  • Ability to pivot or adjust lesson plans to meet the needs of students in the program
  • Has lived experiences or backgrounds similar to the students served in the program
  • Preferred BA in Math and or English
